Hi Nick,
Thank you for the question. While it is not mandatory to have MHPSS training to be able to do the activities presented in the BKP. However we would recommend having a basic knowledge on MHPSS. We have included a basic introduction to MHPSS training video, which explains basic terms and considerations when starting with MHPSS.
Looking forward to hearing how the activities went!

Thanks Nicole an important question!
For MHPSS the most important is to make sure there is no increase of signs of distress and stress. This is to ensure that the practices are not causing harm rather they are promoting a sense of wellbeing and helping children and their teachers to feel safe, empowered and well.
The important changes to measure is if children have increased in their confidence in interacting with others, if their confidence has increased when talking and being able to express how they feel and to voice if they are experiencing challenges in their work. We also want to see children become curious about and engaged with their surrounding environment. These are just some small ways we can see that children’s sense of wellbeing has increased and they are feeling safe and confident from the practices.
I hope this has helped, this is an important part of the practices to safeguard the wellbeing of children and staff in your settings.

Hi Pelin!
As Bilal mentioned there is no need for prior knowledge to implement MHPSS. That being said when receiving an MHPSS methods training there needs to be a strong introduction to what is Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing highlighting that we all have Mental Health which exists on a continuum and that some people might need additional specialised support.
There are some key skills and knowledge we need when we implement MHPSS, this is to understand that MHPSS is perceived differently within different communities, creating a safe space that empowers and promotes the dignity of those we are working with and doing a mapping of the specialised services that one can refer to within the community you are working in.
It would be interesting to know from your own experience what would have helped you to implement MHPSS in your setting?

Child protection is the safeguarding from abuse, exploitation and violence. Child protection and safeguarding is not a singular effort but is a collective response to safeguard children. Some key considerations include;
1. Child protection and the safeguarding of children from abuse, exploitation and violence is the responsibility of all.
2. Know about what the child protection policies are in your country and the child protection practices and policies where children are receiving services and make sure these are respected and implemented.
3. Follow and respect the key principles of the Convention of the Child. These are, non-discrimination, best interests of the child, the right to survival and development and the views of the child.
