Family education means opening the school to families in order to improve their instrumental education. The educational centres’ training offer is open not only to students and teachers, but also to families. Family education is based on training in successful actions and responds to the interests and needs of families.

The programmes and contents of the family training are decided by the families themselves and the community, so that the programme responds directly to their needs and interests, based on the principles of the dialogic learning approach. There is a wide variety of different activities that can be found included in family training programmes.

Family members and the community decide when to participate in family training, as well as the type of activities they undertake and the schedules. Volunteers are responsible for developing these family training activities in partnership with school management teams or with joint committees composed of teachers, family members and other community members. The evaluation of the activity, including the identification of participants’ support needs and the establishment of learning agreements, is based on dialogue processes between volunteers and participants.
